In general, the term “air compressor tripping” refers to a compressor outage caused by a compressor overload and the protector being disconnected.
Other “tripping” faults caused by the tripping of the overload protector must be treated with caution, unless the tripping fault caused by the external power supply is not the cause of the air compressor itself and does not need to be dealt with. The unit may be scrapped as a result of the forced operation.
The most common reason for jumping is high temperature “tripping,” which is especially common during the summer when temperatures are higher. To deal with high temperature trips, the operating temperature of the unit must first be reduced. I’ve already written a number of articles about how to deal with high-temperature tripping. I will only mention it briefly at the end of the article and will not repeat it.
If you notice that your air compressor’s circuit breaker is shutting off the power, make the following checks:
The Air Filter
Circuit breakers in air compressors can trip for a variety of reasons, one of which is a dirty air filter. Dirt is kept out of the air pump by the air filter. Dirt in your air pump can cause serious issues and necessitate costly repairs.
It is, however, critical that you change the air filter in your compressor unit on a regular basis. If the air filter in your air compressor that just tripped off appears to be dirty, it’s time to replace it. You’ll need to troubleshoot further if the system still trips the circuit breaker after changing the air filter.
Faulty motor
A high-capacity induction motor with a low amp draw powers the air compressor. Your air compressor’s circuit breaker can be tripped by a faulty motor. You’ll need the help of a trained technician to figure out what’s wrong with the motor.
Faulty circuit breaker
Another reason your air compressor’s circuit breaker trips frequently is if it is faulty. Although air compressor circuit breakers are of high quality, they can develop a fault after many years of use.
Faulty circuit breakers can be quickly replaced to restore your air compressor unit’s proper operation.
Clogged cylinders
The cylinders in the air compressor improve the performance of the unit. Some compressors have two or more cylinders. A faulty or clogged cylinder can trip the circuit breaker to prevent the air pump from damage.
Broken extension cordÂ
Most things are powered by electricity, so extension cords are included to make it easier to connect to power sources. A faulty extension cord can pose serious dangers, including fire. A fault in an extension cord will cause the circuit breaker to trip, cutting off the compressor’s electric supply and shutting down its system.
Because extension cords are notorious for throttling power, your compressor motor may be underpowered. When the compressor starts, this will cause the motor to overheat and the breaker to trip.
Allow 15 to 30 minutes for the compressor to cool before plugging it directly into a wall socket rather than an extension cord. You’ve solved your problem if your compressor starts this time and you use it until it needs to restart, which it does successfully.
Is it possible for a faulty compressor to trip a circuit breaker?
Yes, if your compressor breaks down and attempts to draw too much power, it will most likely trip your circuit breaker. To avoid a tripped circuit breaker, make sure all of your compressor parts are in good working order.
What is the purpose of tripping the compressor as soon as it runs?
This could happen for a variety of reasons. It could be as simple as a malfunctioning motor or even a faulty circuit breaker. Otherwise, the air filter may become clogged with dirt, the unloader valve or start-up capacitor may fail, causing the circuit breaker to trip.
Because the air compressor unit has a fairly simple operational system, if you notice any signs related to the faults mentioned, please avoid using the air compressor until an experienced air compressor repair man can easily handle the issues.
Finally, keeping your air compressor clean after each use can help you avoid a lot of problems with its operation.
